The Art Of Farming

Farming. It is vital to your success in Valor. You will do it less and less as you grow, but it is invaluable when starting out and during wars.
To successfully make the most out of your farming ventures with minimal loss follow the following guide.

  1. Scout your Barbie Target. Your troops can only carry a certain amount of resource each, so if you know how many resources are there, you can limit how many troops you send to one place getting the most out of your haul.
  2. Barbarians grow walls like they are going out of style so make sure you note the wall height and send Rams if you have them, or sim your atk so you know how many troops you'll loose and compensate them by training more troops.
When you first start out you won't have either scouts nor rams, so basically throw everything you have at the closest barbarian and pray. :)

Arrival Time is how long it takes the troops you sent to get to your target. Remember it takes them just as long to walk back home so factor that in when you are planning

20 Lancers and 10 Bezerkers are what we all start out with and will haul 400 total resources, 134 Wood 133 Clay and 133 Iron.

Barbarian Targets hold the same amount and you can make educated guesstimates based on their point level. When you first start out every barb around you with the point level of 1085 holds 799 pieces of each resource. So farm farm farm!!!

When you DO get Scouts and Rams:
  1. Scout - Send 1 scout per city - send one wave to as many barbarian cities near you
  2. Assess Haul when the report comes back note the Wall Level and send approx 10 Rams per Level Wall you want to remove. (the lower the level the less rams you'll need - also keep in mind that this is for a barb city with NO troops, add def troops and this number fluctuates significantly.  For accurate read, SIM your attack based on your scout report that is the best way to know how many rams it will take you to reduce the wall.)
  3. Delete scout report when you have sent your farmers out so you know you've sent troops there
  4. Repeat
For Troop Hauls and Movement Please See section on Troops.  Each troop type can haul a different amount of resources each.  For this example I'm going to use Lancers because that is what everyone starts out with. To make the most of your farming experience you'll need to familiarize yourself with the wonderful world of math... or have a calculator handy, it makes things easier.  All around your city you have barbs AND player cities, you can tell the inactive players by the fact that A) they have not grown at all - they still are at 1085 point level and B) they are still named Lord#'s. and finally C) they have not bothered to change the name of their city.  After the three day beginner's protection has worn off, the player cities around you will become a wealth of resources to farm.  Note that your first strike will kill a significant amount of your troops as your target will still have the 10 lancers and 5 bezerkers that everyone starts with (Barbarians will have the same) so prepare to loose more then you gain at first.  This reflects in your kill score attack and will show any potential farmer that you are indeed active so it is a win win.  After your nearby cities are clear of pesky troops its time for the math.  I rely heavily on the Lord#'s cities around me when I first start out for a few reasons, first - I know exactly how many resources I'll get, its easy math - a 1085 point city has 0 warehouse, so it holds 799 of each resource which is a total of 2397, divide that by 15 (how much each lancer can carry) and you'll need to send 160 lancers to clear out the city completely.  Second, you know in a Lord#'s city there is no pesky Wall, nor hiding place.  If you train 5 or 6 waves of 160 lancers to send out at once, you can pull in some decent resources in a very little time, with minimal to no losses.  Barbarians grow in unpredictable ways, usually wall is the the first thing to be built.  Even a level 1 or 2 wall in the early stages of the game can be a troop drain - the less guys who die the better your haul will be.  In the case of farming barbs, until you get scouts trained, you can only guess at the warehouse level so sending lancers is a crap shoot - I'm not saying don't farm barbs, they are a valuable resource to have, especially when you've farmed your lord#'s cities dry... I'm just saying they are not my first choice. You know for certain what the lord#'s cities have and how often you can farm them.
In a Lord#'s city, you can safely guestimate that the warehouse will be full again every 5.5 hours as 0 level resource buildings stockpile 150 resources an hour.  It is good to hit them often.
